The development has been designed to comply with the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 ensuring the minimum impact on the environment during building and reduced running costs due to the construction method, insulation and the use of an air source heat pump to provide all heating and hot water. The Orchids have also been designed to comply with Lifetime homes which ensures that the property can be easily adapted to add a downstairs shower and lift from the ground to the first floor should these facilities be required in the future.

Pangbourne (about two miles) has a range of award winning independent shops, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants, a health centre and a mainline station to London Paddington. Closer to home, there is a local shop just across the road for day-to-day needs. There are good primary schools in Pangbourne. St Andrews school, Pangbourne College and Bradfield College are all nearby, with the extensive facilities of Bradfield College, including twenty five metre swimming pool being open to the public.
